Maryland food is very fragile. For instance, since only 3% of the fruits and vegetables eaten in the state are grown locally, Maryland residents are vulnerable to increased hunger from supply chain disruptions, like those seen during the pandemic. The 40 x 40 project aims to develop a comprehensive policy plan to boost the percentage of Maryland’s food that is locally grown to 40% by 2040.
